NO PAGE NUMBERS ON KINDLE VERSION. DO NOT BUY FOR SCHOOL.

WARNING NO PAGE NUMBERS. My Kidle only shows "percent read" which isn't helpful when writing papers and citing the author. I thought there might be a way to turn on some sort of page number feature but after days of trying I gave up. And the worst thing is that it's been seven days since I purchased so I can't get a refund.

Don't make the same mistake. Just buy the paper version and pass on the Kindle download. Not worth it.

Content fine, Kindle version a bother!

I have no complaints about the content or writing style of this book. It was a requirement for a course so it serves its purpose. My only complaint is like many Kindle versions, pages are not marked which makes citing the work difficult.

Don't buy the kindle version of this textbook for college. There are no page numbers. So you cannot follow along on class or used this version to cite I bought the kindle paper white with the intention to get all of my textbooks on the kindle. My goal was to stop caring around heavy text books, always ave access to my books to reference and to have searchable notes. I found out this text book didn't have page number only after I purchased it and spent 20 minutes on the phone with tech support. i had to return it and I will have to get the proper book. I bit of advice don't have a kindle version of a book without the page numbers. It's idiotic.

Girls Don't Need Fairy Tales

It always bothered me that my daughters were so delighted with Cinderella and Snow White... the saving grace in the form of a fairy godmother or prince charming just sets girls up to feel the need to be rescued. Dr. Russianoff's book is one that allows all women to be "real". To take control, to accept responsibility for our own happiness in life and in love, to feel a deep sense of pride and self-contentment in ourselves is something that we can only give ourselves. Looking for someone to fill a void and make us happy always leaves us feeling sorely disappointed. I was very saddened to hear of the Dr's death, but am thankful for the words of wisdom left to us. My dog-eared copy of this book will gladly be passed down to both of my daughters as they approach maturity.

It helped me to finally realise that I am something without a man - and an awesome something at that. Mixed feelings

I review this as a big fan of the Breitbart network.

My main critique of this book is that it's too brief in its rules and all rules lack specific examples. There is lots of hyperbole that paint pictures of rabid liberals that need to be engaged and shot down, very few examples. The only reference Ben uses is his appearance on Pier Morgan's show. For example, Rule #5 is "Spot Inconsistencies in the Left's Arguments." The arguments he presents are vague ideas but ultimately strawmen.

I realize that it's a $0.99 book that is only 20 pages long, so that my not be entirely fair. But to be honest, it reads as if Shapiro thought he could make a few bucks summarizing his exchange with Piers Morgan. And practically, this book is worthless. The "rules" are very brief. Shapiro is a greatly experienced journalist and media personality. These rules work because he practices them every single day. One would need to read various media sites daily and talk to liberals daily in order to be effective. This book sort of suckers people in to thinking reading 20 pages will turn them into Andrew Breitbart.

Rather than read this, I recommend going on YouTube and watching Shapiro, Breitbart, and Pollak actually debating liberals! Breitbart on Martin Bashir's show is legendary, so is Joe Pollak on O'Brien's show.

1. Walk Toward the Fire
“The left knows this is war. And they know you are the enemy. You will be castigated. You will get punched. That’s the way it will go because that’s how the left wins: through intimidation and cruelty. You have to take the punch, you have to brush it off. You have to be willing to take the punch.”

2. Hit First
“Don’t take the punch first. Hit first. Hit hard. Hit where it counts. Mike Tyson used to say, “Everybody has a plan ‘til they get punched in the mouth.” That’s exactly correct. But throwing the first punch requires game-planning. Walking through the door, you have one shot – one! – to put someone down for the count from the beginning of a debate. If done properly, any debate on a single topic can be over within the first 30 seconds.”

3. Frame Your Opponent
“I have argued that the left’s entire playbook consists of a single play: characterizing the opposition. It’s incredibly effective. And the only way to get beyond character arguments is to frame your opponent – make it toxic for your opponent to slur you. Then, hopefully, you can move the debate to more substantive territory. This is the vital first step. It is the only first step…There is no way to convince someone that you don’t hate him or her. You can convince him or her, however, that your opposition is a liar and a hater.”

Doesn't really address issues that are topics of debate. Only describes how to frame arguments or debates to give you the edge and hopefully win. Does not have substantive material on policy or framework of issues and what they mean and how to defend our view on some issues that are close to republicans. I want to learn our issues in-depth and learn how to defend and even influence others, not to antagonize or cajole democrats only to look foolish when I have no factual information or data.

beautiful, but...
By home and school
The art work is exquisite. It makes me want to stick to my daily plans just to have to flip the pages! It's also the reason that I don't rate this planner any lower. The disappointing feature is the glossy photo paper it was printed on, making it highly impractical. If you use a pencil, it's impossible to erase a mistake because your strokes will press into the thick paper. So even if the lead is gone, your words are still "carved" and visible. If you use a pen, you will have smudges everywhere because the ink takes forever to dry on glossy paper.

The space allotted for each day is small, and so are the squares in the monthly calendar. But despite its impractical features, it's still so beautiful I'm finding a way to make it work! Just wanted to give potential buyers a heads up.

Lovely artwork, nice way to keep notes on daily activities

I am enjoying the format and artwork of this diary and I appreciate the space that allows me to keep track of appointments, activities and memorable moments. Many of the dated daily spaces are covered with artwork, making it difficult to write voer the artwork. Other than that I am enjoying the diary.

Great how-to book

I was looking for a good step by step guide on how to become more assertive. A lot of books on the topic talk about the psychology behind a lack of assertiveness, which is not helpful to those who understand the root of a lack of assertiveness but want to get to the next step of being more assertive. I was happy to see this book was the how-to book I was looking for. I liked this flow of this book. Most helpful is the chapter on the script to use (DESO) to confront someone. The earlier chapters lead up to this script by explaining and using examples of assertive vs aggressive, passive, and passive-aggressive behavior.

Great!!! Basically a handbook on how to be an assertive self-respecting person. As someone who grew up in an unhealthy family Asian household without positive role models, this fills in a lot of gaps I was missing. So helpful if you struggle with passivity and low self esteem.

Readable, workable, and fun

It is my experience that few people have strong communication skills -- are capable of gracefully disagreeing, giving opinions, asserting boundaries, confronting people. Most of us either go along with others, try to pacify, avoid confrontation and never say "No," (the passive style) or we boss others around, intimidate them, and force them to give in to "our way" (the aggressive style). There is also the passive-aggressive style which attacks indirectly in order not to take responsibility -- by forgetting, having "accidents," being late, or being slow in responding to a request agreed to. AND sometimes, hopefully more and more, we use the assertive style. The essence of assertiveness is assuming responsibility for your own behavior and acknowledging your thoughts and preferences honestly while also respecting the feelings and opinions of others. Paterson notes that each of these styles is used by all of us at one time or another; and we each have a style we use most.

The book is an excellent handbook which will increase your awareness of yourself and others in all interactions. Further, the author guides you step by step into increasing your flexibility of responses. First, Paterson has assessments for determining which of these four styles you use most. He also explores how we learn these behaviors and when it is appropriate to use each. Beginning with the easiest situations in your own life, you start practicing the assertive style. One of my favorite exercises was called: A Walk in Town. The idea is to practice overcoming passivity by the way you walk. You use a favorite actor or dancer as a model of confidence. The best guide for me was: let your chest enter the room first, not your nose. Although the subtitle of the book emphasizes overcoming passivity, this book is also for those who are overly aggressive. Aggressive persons might be less likely to perceive a problem, but overuse of the aggressive style usually indicates a fear of being out of control and tends to keep us distant from others. This book is a fine resource for personal relationships, for work situations, or conflict management. It is readable, workable, and fun.

I have found the work of Albert Ellis and the form of CBT that he came up with, REBT ( Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy) to be pretty useful.

This book introduces REBT and has transcripts from some of Ellis' therapy sessions.
It is very interesting. However the book is somewhat expensive and there a few typos as well.

I think that there are better and cheaper books about REBT from Albert Ellis and also writers like Windy Dryden.

I did quite like this book and I did get something out of it but I don't think I would really recommend it.

like the previous two

At the risk of repeating myself a little, this book, like the previous two, is a page turner for the most part, but there no surprises. It and they are very formulaic. I again have to say as I have said in previous reviews that his treatment of women is just awful. I read the next book in the series because I had already downloaded it, but I have switched to a new author and new series. There are just too many things that don't quite add up in terms of plot and every book seems to be the same story: the bad guys are mostly idiot monsters with not an iota of redeemable quality and I can't, for the life of me, figure out why the good guys are slaughtering all the bad guys. Other than survival and this memory of an idea of a country maybe, but what the good guys build when they have a chance to build is not much better than what the bad guys build. Everyone's fighting to have their own version of sleazy style Los Vegas country. Enough's enough!

I love this series of stories by Mack Maloney. I like the way the action keeps moving after America was attacked and basically decimated and now, through the will and determination of a group of courageous warriors, America is once again returning to her once powerful status. It love that it's all about fighting for freedom and the American way of life.

This review doesn't just pertain to this book but, the whole Wingman Series. Those of us who like Sci-Fi or Fantasy will love this series. I am currently on book 14 and I can hardly put one of these books down. Action, adventure, a little sex, booze, guns etc. what's not to like? One of the all time best series I have ever read!

Paige Baltzan teaches in the Department of Information Technology and Electronic Commerce at the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. She holds a B.S.B.A. specializing in Accounting/MIS from Bowling Green State University and an M.B.A. specializing in MIS from the University of Denver. Paige also teaches online at Strayer University. She is the co-author of several books, including Business Driven Technology, Essentials of Business Driven Information Systems, I-Series, and a contributor to Management Information Systems for the Information Age. Before joining the Daniels College faculty in 1999, Paige spent several years working for a large telecommunications company and an international consulting firm where she participated in client engagements in the United States, as well as South America and Europe. Paige lives in Lakewood, Colorado, with her husband, Tony, and daughters, Hannah and Sophie.

MIS stands for MISleading

Unimpressive. I had to use this for a class, or I wouldn't have spent the money.

The exterior looks like a magazine or journal, making the casual observer think that the content is similarly up-to-date. For example, the chapter on data spends a couple pages vaguely describing the benefits a business may derive from relational database technology, such as scalability and performance, and gives an example of a website that received, on average, 7 million hits per day in its first year of operation. Admittedly, this is a business-oriented text, so my expectations for technical details were already low. But there was no similar discussion, not even a paragraph, of non-relational database technology, which is by no means new, but is used on sites doing more traffic per hour as the listed example got in a day. Facebook, SalesForce.com, eBay, Google, etc. -- why not spend a page talking about the information technology they find vital. Worse, the listed source for this information was the homepage of a news & commentary website, and a search on that site turned up nothing related to the claims made in the text.

Another frustration is that the author's unjustified biases sit alongside actual information with no clear distinction. The discussion of the systems development lifecycle explains the waterfall methodology in depth, closing with "[it] no longer serves as an adequate systems development methodology in most cases" and touts agile methodology as an alternative. But then the text sweeps through RAD, XP, RUP, and scrum with no case studies or examples showing actual improvement, and fails entirely to mention problems that organizations have had either during the transition to agile methods or after some time using them. Clearly this is not an objective presentation, but will the business-oriented students who go on to become MIS managers realize this without having had the chance to experience the pitfalls and triumphs of both sorts of methodologies on their own? It would be great if the textbook for a information technology management course could spare them from having to learn by experience, but this will not be that textbook.

In short, plenty of good information is available in this text, but for a balanced perspective, seek elsewhere.

This book was a tedious read because every chapter is only 20-25 pages long

I got an A in the class that required this textbook, but only because I seriously went the extra mile in my studying. This book was a tedious read because every chapter is only 20-25 pages long, but every chapter also introduced 50-80 vocab words. By the end of the book, it had introduced about 700+ vocab words, some of them so briefly that they were explained with one sentence and then never again mentioned. The other issue is that there aren't any vocab lists at the end of the chapter so you have to carefully go through each page if you're trying to make a vocab list to review with. There were also many vocab terms in the book that didn't have a definition in the glossary and several typos throughout the book. I also used McGH connect with this book and that was also tedious. 100-120 review problems for each chapter and this still didn't seem to help you learn the terminology because there was so much vocab that most of the terms were still only reviewed with one question.
