The novel isn't poorly written, it's just formulaic. Girl moves to new town. She's a loner and independent, then sees this hot guy who makes her feel things for the first time ever and she becomes an idiot. She realizes something is off about him and discovers his supernatural secret. He has to protect her and they fall in love while she acts useless. There wasn't anything surprising or new for me, so I ended up skimming about 15% into the book and gave up around 70%.

Just finished this book last night and i absolutely loved it, even if it ended on a cliffhanger it was one that left me anxious for the next book but not disappointed; so basically it didn't leave me screaming bloody murder wishing book two was out but it left me interested to see where the story was going to go next.
Other than that the book was a surprise. I didn't expect to like it as much as i did. The characters were okay although nothing really special except for their abilities. Ava was an interesting character, i found myself liking her, then hating her, then liking her again, if only for that one stupid idea she came up with to save every one and herself. I mean i understand why she felt like she couldn't talk to Jared about it but jeez to make a decision like that...and Jared oh Jared as far as a teen male lead goes he pretty much fit the bill. Hot, sweet, protective, caring and of course a bit possessive ;) I love how he took charge when he found out what was happening and vowed to protect her and did just that. I especially love how even when Ava experienced one of her "changes" although it hurt him to see her distance herself from him, he didn't give up and was right there battling with her for her safety every step of the way.
The twist with the Hue was a great one, didn't see that coming and i loved how it played out of course, although i have a nagging feeling it's not over and he will be back for her, bigger and meaner that ever lol. One thing i hated was the "climax" towards the end of the book. I would have loved to have "seen" the fight rather than the scene just fading to black and hearing about what happened from another character. Which leads me to point two, there were times i felt like it would have been great to see the events from Jared's point of view. For example again the fight, the first time he saw/met Ava, during one of her "episodes", when she left the school to meet the Hue and of course during that scene in the clearing at the end. I mean he keeps saying that he has to protect her and he's worried etc but we don't really feel the emotions as much as we should.
Other than these little bumps it was an enjoyable read. Although i would recommend it to others, i wouldn't necessarily say its a book that's for every one. Its a book that can be a hit or a miss, depending on the reader and what they're interested in, but i would ask to give it a try yourself and see how it goes.
