Emotions Matter In Leadership

I have read many books on leadership. However, many times the books I have read have focused on systems, management, etc., not taking into account the complex (and powerful!) system of our emotions. Josh Freedman and Massimimiliano Ghini, MBA integrate much of the new neuroscience with a comprehensive look and analysis of how people can make successful change by honoring the people involved, integrating emotional intelligence skills, in conjunction with keen business sense. There is so much to offer in this book, that I will be rereading to glean all of the gems! This is a must read for those who are looking for ways to change, starting from the inside! I heartily recommend!

Recharges me every time I read it

I work in an organization that flat out refuses to change. I find myself often frustrated by the lack of flexibility and vision that exists in most of the organization. When I feel that way, I pick up this book and read another chapter and I get a renewed energy. Josh speaks in such a clear and thoughtful way that I can relate to everything he says. This book helps me to realize that I can make a difference by applying my own intrinsic values to complicated or difficult situations. I can take control by engaging my EQ tools and lead by example to show others that change is possible and everyone will still be all right. The Know Yourself, Choose Yourself, Give Yourself model is the best method I have found for effectively managing both myself and helping my employees. Whether we like it or not, emotions run our lives so we need ot learn to control them and use them for our benefit. Change is the most difficult time for most people, when emotions get out of control and this book helps bring me back to perspective and give me the tools I need to be an effective leader in difficult, changing, emotional times.

Makes sense!

Oh, my stars! What a book!!!!!! So informative. This just makes sense. Love the neuroscience elements infused throughout the book. So many managers only want to look at statistics coupled with scientific research. This book melds these with the social-emotional component which is vital to any situation where people are involved. The cyclical approach allows and encourages entry at any point for newcomers and constant revisiting and adjusting of what is occurring, currently and in the future. This book is applicable in situations where growth and change is desired, and needed. Powerfully written with sensible applications and a bit of humor. This reads as though the authors are conversing with the reader. A must read. This book is one to reference often.
