About the Author
This is the third book written by Fred Crismon. From 1946 until today, the literature on all makes of cars and trucks has continued to accumulate in Fred's collections. Even in the 35 years of military and government service, of which 21 years were spent outside the US, Fred always made a point to try to keep up to date on International trucks. It was not an easy task, but through letters to the company, assistance from friends, and periodic trips back to the US, the file maintained some degree of continuity.

This book is without question the finest photographic history of International Trucks ever published. An absolute must for every IH collector! Shows models and descriptions for nearly every model IH ever built from 1902-2002. Incredibly educational for any IH truck enthusiast.

"The Bible" for working on your organization itself

Ichak Adizes is not the only person to ever have written about corporate lifecycle management, but he is unique in the degree to which he has made it practical, applicable, and integral to a whole approach to organizational management. It is hard to understate how useful his framework is to people who are trying to build, manage or revive organizations. I work with a lot of startups, and I encourage everybody on the startup team to read this book, which has resulted in the book getting the nickname "the Bible" a couple of times from those who work with me. But I encourage startup teams to read it for a reason. It makes it so much easier to talk about the chemistry of the startup team, the predictable challenges we will face, and the temptations that might kill us. It's mandatory reading for startups, I would say - ideally for the whole team. But it's also useful for people at every other major organizational transition.

There's that painful stage of organizational growth when you're growing so fast the founders can't keep up, and you have to start bringing in professional managers who behave very differently from the founding group. Then there's the challenge of keeping your edge and not getting complacent when you get large and successful. There are also challenges when people in your company are kind of accustomed to being the market dominators, but down on the shop floor the signs of trouble and slipping market share are visible. Finally there are the challenges of trying to turn around a huge bureaucratic institution that no longer serves its stakeholders very well. All of these problems can be understood in terms of Adizes lifecycle theory, and this book is a coherent, practical approach to that entire problem-set.

This makes the book unlike most other business books. It's not an academic book of theory, and it's not one of those flavour-of-the-month business books that takes one or two slim points and stretches them out for 200 pages with filler and anecdote. It's a book written in practical, accessible business language that nevertheless presents a whole coherent theory. That makes it a rare beast - a practical theory book, battle tested over decades of implementation by Dr. Adizes and a global network of Adizes Associates. Few such books exist, and this is one of them.

He's been called the "best kept secret in America" by Ken Blanchard, but really the time for him to be secret knowledge among a few captains of industry is over. At a time when we are needing to reinvent our institutions and our economies, more than ever we need insight into how organizations grow and die, in order to help some grow, and also to help some die to be replaced by new creative structures. About the Author
Dutch Homeopath and medical doctor Tinus Smits has been studying, practicing and teaching homeopathy for more than 30 years, right until his death in 2010. He began as a lay homeopath before entering medical school at 31 years of age, finishing his medical training in 1986. He has run a successful practice in the Netherlands and has been teaching for more than 20 years in many different countries all over the world. He has studied with eminent homeopaths including Jacques Imberechts, Alex Jacques, George Vithoulkas and Alphons Geukens. Dr. Smits always believed that the therapeutic possibilities of homeopathy could be improved by careful observation and notation of the results of homeopathic treatment. From his own careful observations, he developed Inspring Homeopathy, a system for treating the universal layers present in all people, allowing him to heal deep disorders resistant to standard homeopathic treatment. Vaccinations, environmental insults, poor nutrition, and their cumulative impact on children and adults have always had his special attention. During the past three years, he formulated and developed an effective treatment to heal autistic children, the CEASE therapy, documented by the many cases he has dealt with in his practice. He has published several other books and articles on these subjects.

In this chilling debut, Clegg has written a serious and compelling, if somewhat detached, addition to the subgenre of "addiction memoirs." Clegg's tight, elegant prose, earnest tone, and meticulous attention to detail call up a fairy tale world brutally transformed into a monstrous hell. While the New York Times Book Review and the Times considered the book tedious and clich�d, their comments appeared to be directed more toward the genre as a whole, whose repetitive descriptions of substance abuse are "amply familiar to anyone who has ever watched a single episode of Behind the Music on VH-1" (Times). Of course, reviewer David Carr has written his own tale of addiction, The Night of the Gun (***1/2 Nov/Dec 2008). Most critics, however, agreed with the Globe and Mail, which called Clegg's unflinching, intelligent, and grim account "a skillfully conjured, slow-motion train wreck from which it's impossible to look away."

Clegg was a partner in a thriving literary agency and was involved in a long-term, loving relationship when he succumbed to cocaine addiction. For two months, he went on a crack binge that emptied his bank account, ruined his business, destroyed his relationship, and nearly took his life. Clegg alternates between recollections of his slow and steady decline into addiction and his youthful discovery that he was gay, humiliated by his father's taunts and his mother's distance. As his addiction escalated, he frantically chased the high, endlessly starting over after binges of drinking and smoking crack, running away from every intervention effort by his family or his lover, indulging in anonymous sex with a string of fellow users. When his disheveled appearance prompts a hotel to reject his attempt to register, he realizes he has fallen into “the purgatory between citizen and nobody, between fine young man and bum” and begins a slow and painful recovery. Surpassed expectations...not one hint of sentimentality

The narrative voice in Clegg's memoir is unusually strong, making it a real page turner. Several times I feared that he would, after some particularly vivid moment in the book, begin to lead the reader up the twelve yawn inducing steps toward recovery. But he seems to have known that choosing such a path in the middle of such a wild descent into hell would result in the kind of cloying, predictable, prostration at the altar of belief, which would have rendered his brilliant observations inert. But I'm happy to say that this never happened. And as good looking as Clegg is, the drug-induced paranoia he navigates had me thanking my lucky stars that I never had the opportunity of getting high with him. I'm eager to see how he handles recovery in his new book, "Ninety Days."

Portrait of an Addict as a Young Man is one of the best books I have ever read, it grabbed me by the balls and wouldn't let go until the end! Bill Clegg doesn't try to impress us that he is another Proust, but he does impress never-the-less, with honesty and humility, sharing in raw edged and well written detail the degradation of childhood, and dashed successes of adulthood due to drugs. Having had a rugged time of it through much of life, I sought refuge from pain for a time in self-medication--this is not exactly like addiction, but many details are the same. Bill Clegg not only helped me understand myself better but he reminded me I'm not alone, and for those reasons I am very grateful, and look forward to his next book. Some have criticized the quality of the author's writing. I object. They criticized van Gogh in the beginning, his work was not art they said. But they were wrong.
