About the Author
P. Anastasia is the author of the YA urban sci-fi book series Fluorescence and several forthcoming fantasy-fiction novels.

Writing has always been her passion, and she began attempting to write her first novel at age 11. While working toward her college degree, she wrote news and editorial columns as well as designed graphics for two different campus newspapers. After graduating with a degree in Communications, she followed her heart back to her publishing aspirations with her debut series, Fluorescence. On the side, she serves as a professional voice talent for radio, TV, audio books, and has produced over 4,000 recordings for businesses across the globe.

When a dying race of aliens chooses to implant their own glowing DNA into a group of teenagers, things are bound to get strange. And that's exactly what happens to Alice and her friends. As if high school, puberty, and introducing your mom to your first boyfriend weren't hard enough, Alice now has to juggle a sporadically glowing patch of alien DNA on her shoulder. That alone might be manageable, but the aliens who put it there want Alice to do more than just play hostess to their genes; something they failed to mention to her.

Fire Starter is a thoroughly enjoyable read. The characters are easily relatable, and the protagonist, Alice, manages to come across as a genuine teenage girl, while still portraying enough maturity to make her appealing to an older audience too. Anastasia has given each character a unique voice, allowing them to stand out in the group. Given the nature of the series to come (each book narrated by a different character) Fire Starter sets up a strong cast, and leads the way for powerful series.

Fire Starter is a great blend of urban YA with science fiction. One does not need to be an avid sci-fi fan to find it enjoyable. The story gets off to a slow start, as the characters and their world are introduced, but really picks up the pace once it becomes apparent that a dying alien race is meddling in their lives, and wants something more from the kids than they may be willing to give. The end will leave you hanging out for book 2.

Impressive Work!

I am a member of the Baby Boomer generation and had never read a book from the category of Young Adult prior to this one. I was not certain it would hold my interest, but I was definitely mistaken about that. It was not only a great read, but one that has left me looking forward to Book 2. Congratulations to the author on an impressive first novel!

Fluorescence: Fire Starter is the first book in the Fluorescence series written by P. Anastasia. The book's mainly about the fluorescence ones--much like the chosen ones. The story follows Alice and Brian's adventure discovering what's really happening—along with the third fluorescence ones. Aliens have given them a DNA to preserve their race. As they discover the secrets beyond the glowing light beneath, their life started to change. Will it affect their future? Is there anything to be worried about? What's the real intention of the saviors?

I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars! It's a great and easy read. If you like young adult sci-fi, then this book's definitely for you.

The story's a little fast at first but it gets intense as the story goes on. The secrets make it better. The writing style isn't boring. The characters are very interesting.. Specially Brian. If you already read the host by Stephenie Meyer and you loved it, well, this is a great book the same as Meyer's. Try this book out! It's worth the money and time.

The plot twist at the end really shocked me! I was reading this book at the mall while waiting for my dad then suddenly it happened. I was unable to continue it as expected ‘cause the twists were still processing. It’s so unbelievable—so unique!

So, yes! I'll end this review with a compliment because I really love the idea or the concept used. It's very original.. Though the plot may seem common, but the writing style's unique. Plus that the book has a good cover. That's a plus point for a sci-fi book, you know?

A tasty treat.

If you are looking for a fun, fast paced read by a Sci-Fi up and comer - let me try to talk you into getting Jerry Aubin's "The Ship Series" volumes. 1 & 2 are available so far, with a generous offer by the author to obtain some advance chapter for vol. 3 if you email him - free of charge.

The adventures of Zax and Kalare take place (mostly thus far) aboard an asteroid-turned-spaceship on its mission to find new colonization planets humans needing to flee planet earth. What was meant to be a mission of a few hundred years in this massive venture to save humanity has stretched into 5,000 years. The problem though? Human nature doesn't seem to have changed much any, if at all. Society is still severely stratified. Greed, power, politics, pride, and territorialism are as alive and well as ever - even in their restricted environs.

Zax and Kalare as the sympathetic, likeable, teen protagonists having you cheering on their side every step of the way. One only hopes for a budding romance at some point. But as immersed as everyone is in the survival of the aging ship and its millions of inhabitants, and the news that there are rogue humans out there somewhere when those aboard the ship were so certain they were all alone - leaves precious little time for anything but a wholly utilitarian existence.

I devoured the 1st 2 volumes in short order, like a tasty treat. And topped them off with the 5 chapters from book 3 that Aubin was kind enough to send along via email. I can't wait for the full edition.

Jerry's style is crisp with just the right touch of letting you in on the thought processes of the the characters at criticial times.

Pick this series up. You won't be disappointed. Are they deeply philosophical? No. But they aren't meant to be. They are meant to be fun and engaging and they hit those marks all the way though. I like it when you can tell the author is having as much fun writing as he or she hopes the reader will. That comes through in Jerry Aubin's books. Buy and enjoy.

Compelling sci-fi—even for those who aren't always fans of the genre

I have to admit I'm not a sci-fi fan; a friend recommended this for my son, so I previewed it. I soon realized I was hooked! As previous reviewers have noted, it's the well-constructed world that holds this book together and draws the reader in. The concept of humanity pooling all remaining resources and carving a semi-habitable world out of an asteroid in order to escape a dying Earth reads like a plausible "what-if" scenario that I want to learn more about. We feel the tension on the "Ship" and the emotional stake in discovering the possible existence of other humans. The fictional society's hierarchies and rites of passage serve a secondary purpose as a refreshingly subtle device to explain the world to the readers—a solution to a persistent problem with the genre. As "cadets" learn from their superiors, the reader develops a better understanding of their world, as well. One more detail: I was relieved to see a smart, strong, emotionally stable female character who does not (yet?) develop into just a romantic interest for the main male character. I look forward to the rest of the series!

My 10-year old finished this in two days

My daughter is a huge sci-fi reader, especially dystopian tales. She devoured this book, finishing it off in less than 48 hours. The story held her rapt attention without fail and she loved and really related to Zax, the protagonist. I highly recommend this book to young adult sci-fi fans!

Good book for both sides to read. At least you have fair warning what the attorneys may be counseling their clients to do and the assumptions to be argued in court. The end of the book (suggestions to fix the system) is by far the best part of the book!
